We all experience the sensory input around us through our senses, in different ways.

Some individuals have difficulty organising and making sense of sensory information.

Some individuals may have highly sensitive senses, whilst others may have under responsive senses and seek sensory sensations.

In this course, we will explore how people experience their senses differently and the impact this has on daily life and learning.

Sometimes it can be difficult for us to know exactly what sensory needs a child may have and so we will look at how we can identify individual sensory needs.

We will explore how we can support children and learning through adapting our environment and implementing sensory supports throughout the day.

After the course you will have a good understanding of different sensory needs and practical ways in which you can support an individual's sensory regulation.

Understanding autism and learning online course training teachers parents

Hi, I’m Steph Reed, your teacher!

Over the past 12 years, I have taught many autistic children, with a wide variety of abilities and complex needs.

I now help schools and services ensure high quality autism provision and practice, enabling children to achieve and maximise their outcomes.

I have tailored these online courses to give you accessible, and bite-size, background knowledge in evidence-based approaches, as well as the practical understanding in how to implement strategies and importantly, ensure impact on learning.

“In the time that Steph has been working with my school, I have been able to see a sustained improvement in the provision offered. This has been the case in the growing knowledge and skills of the staff she has worked alongside, the physical environment provided for pupils with ASD and the outcomes for those pupils"
